The Japan Journal respects your privacy. We only collect your personally identifiable information to provide you service. Your personally identifiable information consists of (1) your email address, when you provide it in correspondence to us, (2) your name, again when you provide it in correspondence, and (3) your home address, when you provide this for shipping any products that we might offer for sale, or if you are a participant in one of our contests. We may, but it is not a given, have some access to personally identifiable information in the form of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses associated with your accessing our web pages, or sending us email. We may also, but again it is not a given, have some access to your personally identifiable information in the form of email headers on any email that you might send us. We do not use cookies in our content, though please see the Provider and Advertiser sections.
We do not sell, rent, lease, or otherwise transmit your personally identifiable information to anyone else.
As to aggregated, non-personally identifiable information, we may provide to our advertisers such aggregate information as (1) the total number as well as general demographic information about “hits” on our web-site, (2) the total amount and demographics of correspondence we receive from our users, and (3) response levels and demographics of any contests or promotions.
If we are served with legal process, we will endeavor to comply to the extent that we must to meet our legal obligations.
To the extent feasible, we provide security in the form of not including any JavaScript, Java, ActiveX, or any other type of scripts or live code within Japan Journal’s content (however, please see the Advertiser Section of this document.) Our website is flat html code, and is not dynamically recreated in response to your requests. This makes our website load faster, provides you a better user experience, and it makes it less likely for security breaches to occur.
While the Japan Journal under its current management will not sell, rent, lease, or otherwise transmit your personally identifiable information to anyone else, we do reserve the right to transfer complete operational control to other entities. If we do so, we reserve the right to mail you an explicit opt-in (not an opt-out) to have your information transfer to the new controlling entity. If you do not explicitly opt in, your information will be destroyed prior to the time of change of control.
We use an outside service provider for our website host and for our email, and while we repose confidence in the provider to respect your privacy, the provider does have access to all of the information that you provide us, including all accesses via HTTP and via email. You can find the providers privacy policies at http://www.godaddy.com. The provider also asserts that it is a licensee of TRUST-e, and provides a privacy policy acceptable to TRUST-e. The provider may use cookies to track accesses to its servers, though we have not observed this in practice thus far.
We also allow advertisers to place advertising on our website. While we repose confidence in their respect for your privacy, we cannot assure it. Advertisers may include javascript, ActiveX, or other scripts and live code in their advertising, as well as cookies and 1 pixel figures and other tracking mechanisms. While we believe that our advertisers do not misuse any personally identifiable information in the form of IP addresses, we cannot assure ourselves or you of this.
