Hiratsuka is an attractive city by the sea. It hosts one of the three Tanabata festivals held in Japan each year.
We were lucky enough to attend the 2001 festival, one of the most dense events imaginable. People, decorations, exhibits, Tanabata is as much of an experience as Samba in Asakusa but is far more Nihonteki.
