Gyudon (Beef bowl)

  • Thinly sliced beef, 1 1/2 pounds
  • 2 large onions, cut vertically into thin strips
  • Mirin, 1/2 cup
  • Soy sauce, 3/4 cup
  • Sugar, 1/2 tablespoon to 3/4 tablespoon (this depends on how sweet your onions are)

In a wide pan, combine mirin, soy, and sugar and bring to a medium boil.

Add 1/3 of your onions. Cook until soft, then add all of the beef.

Stir, cook until all beef has browned.

Add remaining onions and cover.

Cook covered for five minutes, occasionally opening the pan to give a quick stir.

Add soy sauce or sugar to taste.

Serve over white rice plated in individual bowls.
